GSX750F Luggage

I've bought a '99 GSX750F as an all-round road bike but will be doing some touring on it. The longest trip I've got planned is 10 days down South in March 2018.

I'm looking at what luggage to get. So far I have a nice Givi magnetic tank bag.

The bike came with a top box which you can't knock functionally but man it's hideous. As I've got it already I guess I'll use it on longer trips.

I'd like to get some saddlebags as well. There's dozens of options online but I want some input from people who own the same model bike because I know you don't always get a good result from slapping any old bags on a bike (made a hole in one many years ago when it caught on the rear tyre )

I want something that fits without any dicking around, even if it means installing mounting brackets etc. Not keen on having elaborate bungee cord setups, only takes one to fail and get wrapped in the chain/wheel, bugger that.

Not keen on hard luggage because it's generally more expensive. I could be persuaded tho.

I will go into the local bike shops but they don't have a massive range and tend to be more expensive.

Bike hire - Auckland

I have my L-R test coming up and my blinking bike has started playing up. Given I have learnt on a GN I would like to sit the test on a GN to keep life as simple as possible rather than try to learn the nuances of a new bike right before the test. Does anyone know where I can hire GN's for test's (I am on the shore as is my test),

thanks in advance

##Saigon traffic wtf ????##

Just got back from a couple of weeks in Saigon. What a fucken awesome place!!! You tube traffic in Saigon and you will get an idea of it if you havn't been!!!!
Total chaos but it works, crossing the road is the first thing to learn you just slowly cross without stopping or speeding up and the scooters go around you.
Apparently about 95% of vehicle registrations is motorcycles (they call scooters motorbikes).Saw a little kid about 2 years old in a mall looking at a scooter on display twisting his right hand like a throttle looking at it he probably learnt that before walking ;),scooters are more than just transport to them its like a way of life.A barman I was talking to rides his 125 scooter to visit his parents once a month the trip is 4 hours each way!! They dont give a fuck they just do it as its the norm.If you ever get a chance go and experience this mad awesome place!! :headbang:

2018 Triumph Speedmaster- beautiful!

Wow. This must be one of the most attractive modern classic looks Triumph have produced to date. Nailed it Lads. Bloody beautiful in the black & white trim. Similar riding position to the 2004 America I once owned. That was comfy but sadly lacking power. This new 1200 engine should raise the bar a bit.

Drivng on NZ Roads

I drove down to Manfeild on Friday and back today and made some observations as I was driving.

Why do people try and overtake vehicles in the passing lane doing just over 100K?

I saw a car run out of overtaking lane and end up on the other side of the road...lucky nothing was coming the other way.

IMHO better to go flat out and risk a ticket than do that.

Why do logging trucks think its ok to pass another logging truck on a passing lane with a line of cars behind them?

Why do other countries have a decent motorway between cities and we have a goat track, the section around Taupo is a joke.

I figure it will never happen.

Why is there no motorway past Hamilton?

I appreciate they need to do roadworks but SH 1 seems to be just one long line of cones and stop/go signs.

I was impressed with how quick a Porsche could overtake me and two trucks and just miss the oncoming truck by a couple of

seconds.:niceone:

If that's what its like all the time the road toll comes as no surprise really.

And that fecking Southern Motorway...

By the time I got home I was over driving only to find my drive blocked by...cones....

Anyway I'm still buzzing from riding and old bike fast....work should cure that tomorrow :weep:

Please don't reply Cassina as your a fuckwit.

Shark Fishing

Malcom Turnbull, the Prime Minister of Australia, takes a day off to escape the pressures of the job.
He decides to go sailing off brisbane, after a few hours on the ocean he spies an enormous mega-yacht at anchor and is curious so he sails close to it.
He is absolutely astounded to recognise 3 figures on deck:US President Donald Trump, the Duke of Edinburgh and Nigel Farge.
Between them they are pulling an Aboriginal man out of the water on a lenght of rope.
Prime Minister Turnbull grabs a loudhailer and calls across to them.
"Gentlemen I am profoudly moved by your act of compassion.I have read much in the press about you being racists.
I will never believe any of these stories ever again. Good luck!"
As he sails away into the distance Nigel Farge asks,"Who the hell was that?"
Donald Trump replies,"I have no bloody idea."
Prince Phillip observes,"One things for sure,he knows bugger all about shark fishing!"

New Brighton street races - What happend?

Hey Team,

Was speaking to my father in-law who made mention that there used to be street racing in Christchurch (New Brighton and Avondale?) looking into it further we even had Joey Dunlop doing a demo lap on the Britten back in 94, can anyone remember why they canned the event? I know it would be rough trying to push for it now with all the earthquake damage and noise restrictions etc. just want to know why they stopped it.

Thanks guys

Anyone know where I can buy one of these black adjustable windscreen gadgets ?

My current windscreen causes buffeting around my helmet and so needs to be a bit taller.
Rather than playing trial & error with adding on bits, this adjuster looks like just the business.

This photo was taken on a bike traded into a dealer. The dealer had never seen one before.

Any suggestions from the audience ?

LAMS restricted vs full power ecu

A conversation with a friend led me to wonder, what is the difference between the LAMS-restricted and full power versions of the SV650?
Does anyone here know? Friend reckons not much difference (ie not worth doing when one finally has a full licence)

Google searches return only old results with comments about clipping wires - not useful comments on actual performance.

Poverty measure ... doesn't make sense to me

Watching TV news this morning and some guy was talking about poverty. He said the measure was defined in New Zealand as the households that make less than 60 per cent of the median disposable income. Fine. I did fail school cert maths but one thing I was good at was statistics.. I started thinking.

The median is the middle point in a series. The point that separates the top half from the bottom half.

Now I can understand making a dollar value the 'poverty line' but I don't understand making it a percentage of the median. If the goal is to eradicate 'poverty', then saying 60% less than the median is useless because no matter what you do, there will always be people 60% less than the median. If you increase the dollars those people at the bottom get, then yes, they get more dollars but then the median goes up so there are still the same number of people 60% below the median.

Am I wrong? I did say I failed school cert maths (41 years ago).

Clutch whine advice.

I am hoping someone can offer some insight into this.

A while back, the bike developed a bit of a whine whenever the clutch lever was pulled, there was also a small but noticeable pulse while riding in the friction zone.

A recent misfortune involving roadworks, stones, and a radiator has the bike up on the table and while the fairing is off, I thought it best to have a look at the clutch assembly.

And here is the problem, or possibly part of it, the Pull Rod(#46102) is nicely chewed up and the Release Lever(#13102) also looking a little bit shabby.

eahQ5rm.jpg

315fh6b.jpg

What causes this? Is it just these parts failing and in need of replacement, or a symptom of another problem?

When replacing these should I, as a matter of course replace anything else, needle bearings etc.

The bike is on 22000 kms, and prior to this, the clutch has not been opened.

TM 28 carb too heavy on the throttle pull.

The TM28 pumper slide carb on my DRZ250 seems to need a lot of force at the throttle. The issue seems to be a too heavy gauge return spring on the main shaft. Cables move freely, throttle has no binding. Anybody know if this is a common complaint or of any fixes.

Thought

It is the month of june,on the shores of the Black sea.It is raining and the little town looks totally deserted.
It is tough times, everbody lives in debt, and everybody lives on credit.
Suddenly a rich tourist comes to town.He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 Euro note on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one.
The hotel proprietor takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the butcher.
The butcher takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the pig grower.
The pig grower takes the 100 Euro note, and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.
The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the town prostitue that in these hard times, gave her services on credit.
The prostitue runs to the hotel and pays off the debt with the 100 Euro note to the hotel propietor to pay for the rooms that she rented when she bought her clients there.
The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 Euro note back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.
At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms and takes his 100 Euro note, after saying that he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.
No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism.
And that is how a capitalist ecomomy works.

hyosung gv250 mods

Hey guys

I have a 2011 hyosung gv250 and would like some help/info/advice on mods and upgrades and so on.

I would love to buy a bigger bike something with a roar and about of grunt behind it but with my partner not being aloud to work for medical reasons means I won't be buying anything bigger anytime soon so might aswel stick with mods for now.

First of all
Exhaust I have the 2 - 1 (personally I think it's ugly)
I removed the baffle but as I work start work at 11pm and finish at 4am I dont think my neighbors would appreciate the extra noise hahah. Also the missus said I couldn't keep it that loud.
So I cut the first 2 inchs off which gave it a bit of a deeper louder tone but also a ruspy sound when reving.
So question is what aftermarket slip-on or full systems do you recommend
Any ideas what I can do with my current set up or is the 2 - 2 style pipes that the gv250 comes out with any better.
I want louder but also deeper and if possible a more gruntier sound but also something that looks good. Not overly bothered about performance but any gains would be good as long as Im not losing power.
Is it as easy as swap old for new or are there other things I have to take into consideration.

Secondly
Has anyone got any experience or knowledge on the MAGNUM Smart-Tune Motorcycle Fuel Tuner Performance Module
Are they any good
Are they worth the money
Is there any point
Are they reliable

Also what over mods in the way of
- Looks
- performance
- practicality
Do you recommend or am I wasting my time and/or money
Open to all ideas and all positive and negative feedback (constructive criticism)

Thanks in advance for any advice/help/info
Cheers

CRF250L Rally Thread

Can't see that anyone has started a thread for these yet. Just picked up mine today so thought I might share my experience with the bike and anyone else that has one feel free to add your comments.

I got the bike this afternoon from Hamilton Honda - top people by the way. Then I rode across to Rotorua - first 120 odd km.

The thing that strikes me first about these bikes is how incredibly versatile they are. Sure that means compromise, but that's not a bad thing. It will happily sit on 120km cruise with little vibration. Position is comfortable on the road - seat a little hard but plenty of room to move around and change position. Maybe I will need some work on the seat for long distance riding. The screen is great. Actually better than my VFR. I'm 5'9" so just right for my height.

The handling and suspension are great (for a lower powered bike) on the twisty bits specially. The thing with a smaller engine you have to work it - and these enjoy being worked a bit. It's a very engaging ride when it's about riding rather than relying on power.

The biggest criticism of these that I've seen is why didn't Honda put a 300cc or 450cc engine in them? I think in a way that's missing the point. The bike is great fun to ride and more power would just mean more expensive to run. It's kind of getting back to the bikes of my youth - cheap transport that has a big grin factor. The bikes I remember most fondly are simple dual purpose bikes like an XL175 I had in my teens, and an XL250 Degree I got 15 years or so back when I got back into riding. The Rally captures the essence of those bikes but with a modern twist - ABS, decent suspension (compared to those older bikes), good cruising speed, decent range, while still having great fuel economy and being simple and relatively light.

The "Rally" name of course is just marketing. This is not a race bike by any means. It's more like a junior Africa Twin adventure bike. But I'd be way more confident taking this basically anywhere compared to a larger adventure bike. I'm hoping to get some more challenging riding experiences over the summer so I'll report back on how "Africa Single" goes.

motorcycle jackets for men

To get the right motorcycle jacket, you should pick a jacket that is going to keep you warm in cold weather and guard your body from minor injury in case of a collision. Leather Collection is certainly one of the very best place to buy leather motorcycle jackets for men.

And of course the T7.

Most definitely a twin Tenere, not the desert blaster prototype, but to me that would be a perfick NZ all roads bike.

Reliable commuter bike, runs great but needs a couple of things done to get a WOF all of it due to wear and tear and since I am moving I do not have the time to get it sorted. Bike has cosmetic damage to the fairings on both sides from a previous owner. Price has been adjusted accordingly

WOF sheet in pictures, done by Action Bike Wreckers. Price to fix all that's needed is approx $450 At Cycletreads using a second hand tire or $450 At Spectrum with a brand new tire or $350 with a second hand tire.

My first new bike

Hi all,

Tomorrow I am going to be picking up my new bike, my first brand new bike.

Any and all advise on how I should be running the bike in is welcome.... well.. within reason, I understand what I am opening myself up to on this site.

I will of course speak with the dealer before I take it away but I feel it is always better to seek advise from multiple sources.

Cheers all in advance,

Tim

Bridgestone tyres in Auckland?

I've been without a bike for a few years and finally got a new one a couple of months ago but now it needs some new tyres.

Back in the day Cycletreads was the place to go for a good deal and always had what i was after, I gave them a call the other day looking for a Bridgestone S21 and the guy told me they don't have any and made it sound like it's been some time since they sold one.

According to the Bridgestone website the S21 is their current sport model, so either Bridgestone has fallen out of favor or Cycletreads isn't the place I remember.

This isn't a dig at Cycletreads, I'm just a few years out of touch.

I think I'm going to head down to Boyds in Hamilton but thought I'd let the community enlighten me first :dodge:

Starter rebuilds in Bay of Plenty

Can anyone recommend someone to rebuild a starter motor in the Bay of Plenty? The starter on my 2005 Speed Triple is toast and I'm trying to decide between new replacement (~$400) or a local rebuild.

Motorcyclists are 3rd most likely to die on the road.

This is a new statistic out today putting vehicle drivers and their passengers ahead of motorcyclists which should mean lower ACC premiums for motorcyclists and higher premiums for other vehicles as you are more likely to die in them than on a bike.

Bikes Yamaha Mt-03 LAMS

Hi all,

My Yamaha Mt-03 is up for sale.
2016 model and still under warranty, done 6000 odd kms so in tidy and near new condition.
LAMS approved and a great learner bike, was something different from my DRZ and a great commuter and fun weekend bike.
Also has aftermarket K&N filter and exhaust, these add no power but add a bit of something to the sound. Originals also included.

Fast enough and economical, with an upright riding position.
For those who don't know basically a naked Yamaha R3 and one of the quicker current LAMS bikes.
I looked at the Duke 390's, BMW G 310R and Z300, but liked the looks and the ride of the MT-03 the most.

Never dropped and well looked after, I'm just moving overseas otherwise I'd keep it.
