I need to contact "Wobbly" about a 2-stroke exhaust system repair

Hello Guys,

I ride an R6 (2001, 143,000 km from new) but I also fly a 2-stroke engine-powered hang glider. Last Sunday, metal fatigue caused the muffler of my exhaust to fall off mid-air and destroy my pusher propeller, forcing an emergency landing. The video link is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdseriW150Q

The pipe broke off just after the expansion chamber. I need to get the curved and straight piping after the chamber, and a stinger, as well as the safety springs and brackets. A mate of mine is a TIG welder and is offering me a good rate. But I need to get the parts for him to weld.

I asked around and some said to contact "Wobbly" and this forum is where I should start. Can anyone put me in touch with him?

CBR 250 2012 Front Brake Pads

Hi all - is there anywhere online I can order some brake pads for my CBR 250 2012.

Brake pads seems to be a funny thing, it seems like every model of bike has different types and there are no base universal models? or am I wrong here.

Just trying to save a little money installing them myself.

Any advice would be good.

Thanks

Ducati Multistrada

I've recently purchased a multistrada
I'ts not an easy bike to find parts for, and it's a rather unusual ride - thought it would be beneficial to have a forum for owners to share info

I cant seem to find any forums in NZ - so we could either start one here or could someone point me in the direction of a good forum?

Restricted licence

I'm tossing up booking my CTBA for Restricted licence one of two ways.
1) do a training course + the CBTA assessment. About $400 no matter which provider I book with, for 2-4 hours training and assessment. One-stop shop.
2) repeat the Ride Forever Bronze course then book in the CBTA R assessment only. $20 plus ?$150? for 8 hours plus ~1 hr for the assessment. A little more time consuming to book and complete two different things.

It's not solely about the cost, I'd like to maximise my learning and skills consolidation. I have done one Bronze course and found it hugely beneficial. The other guy on the course was doing it as a prep for sitting his Restricted the non-CBTA way the following day, and got great feedback. I would like input/reassurance that my skills are suitable/sufficient (I think they are, but I'm just me, I'm not an assessor).
I can do another Ride Forever course after I get my Restricted, if I don't do it before.

Have you done one, or the other, and got any helpful gems of advice?

SV1000S previous owner, maidstone yamaha wgtn.

Hey folks, just brought a 07 sv1000s from maidstone yamaha that was a trade in for a new bike apparently. I was hoping the previous owner or someone that might know him ,might be keen to get in touch via PM to see if he would sell any of the old stock parts if he still has them, like mirrors, bar end weights, rear mudguard etc.

I think it got traded for a new MT-01, V twin. Probly not many of those around in wellywood.

Anyway as I say interested in buying/trading beer for any of the stock bits taken off.

BTW previous owner did awesome job of keeping her tidy, nice!.

Cheers Jono.

Do you know what happened to your old bikes

have you ever wondered what happened to your pride and joy after you sold it.

for once I have found out, was doing a random google search on 1999 CBR600's and what popped up but my old bike up for sale being broken up for parts. I know it's my old bike as i can just make out the rego plate number on the rego sticker and it's the right rego number. I bought this brand new put 85000km on it in 4 years and I have to admit that it was one of my favorite bikes. it doesn't look so flash anymore, it was still cosmetically mint when I sold it. looks like the following 13 years haven't been so kind to it. does anyone else wonder what happen to there old bikes?

The photo says it all, a sorry state it's in now not the brand new bike I remember buying.

Parts & Accessories MT-07 Stock Exhaust

I have a stock MT07 exhaust (headers back) - currently located in Hamilton but I can ship at buyers expense.

The MT-07 is technically no longer LAMS legal with an aftermarket exhaust (even the factory option Akrapovic) - this is pretty big issue for insurance... There aren't too many exhausts still floating around - I had to source this from Ausy!

Road Racing Chest Protectors

With the new rules for 2018 Road Racing Chest Protectors are going to be compulsory from January 2018. So I was just wondering whether anyone would be doing a bulk purchase for these ?, as there are a great number of Racers out there that are not using anything at the moment . The Alpine Stars Nucleon KR-CiR looks the go, Certified to EN1621 which MNZ are requiring, it comes in two Sizes retailing for around $80. I have been using a Chest protector for years but not under this certification, so will have to purchase something to meet the new standards.
Anyone doing a Deal?

Guy Martin retires?

MCN have announced that Guy Martin has retired. Others are not so sure. He had a high speed crash on the Island this year due to a technical failure of his Honda. There is an interview made following that on the Net that showed he was seriously shaken up. Arriving at a 140mph corner "with a box full of neutrals" could due that.

His actual statement is here: http://ift.tt/2w2JqUK

Recommend me a lawyer in christchurch

Hi,

My son is looking to buy a house, possibly quite shortly, and is therefore in need of a lawyer to do the lawyering stuff.

Any recommendations for someone who is competent, not to expensive (he's on the first home tight budget), and will be around for a while as the lawyer thing tends to be ongoing for a few years/decades.

I would have recommended my previous lawyer, but he's retired and the others at his company inspire no confidence, so if they're halfway decent they'll probably get my business too.

And before anyone else suggests it, HDC seems like someone suitably sarcastic and cynical that I could pay money to for such services and even possibly have a beer with, but his previous posts suggest that he's moved up from that sort of menial work.

Any help appreciated.

What is considered high KMs for a bike?

Just looking at getting a second hand bike to cruise about NZ on and seeing as its my first road bike (been off road riding for years) I'm not sure what is considered high km's for a road bike.

I have my aim at Yamaha Tenere's 660's, but would like to know where I should draw the line at km's wise. Is 60,000kms to much?

Any help appreciated

New Biker Series

Came across a review for Gangland Undercover series in HD magazine.

Said to be along the lines of SOA, yet based on a true story of an undercover agent infiltrating the gang.

I found that I could stream both season 1 and 2 on History Channel website using a VPN, and eBay Australia has the season 1 DVD for $50.00 including postage - Went for the latter as I will watch it more than once and would prefer the surround sound.

Anyone know where I can get a rubber seal for my 2001 RM125?

1989 Kawasaki ZXR 250 Mystery Part

Hi all,

Today I was replacing the clutch on my ZXR 250, all was going well, I had the new clutch in and was getting ready to put a fresh gasket on but realized that I needed to take of the crank position sensor to get the gasket on.

Easy enough, I undid the two bolts but then as I pulled the sensor outwards a small crescent shaped cover fell out onto the table (see photos). I've spent an hour looking around with a torch but can't for the life of me see where it goes or what it is.

Any clues?

Thanks.

The AA

AA Directions arrived in the post for my Son as I cancelled mine some time back with a rant about their anti motorcycle stance.

I had a quick flick thru it and was surprised to see a full page ad from ACC promoting the Ride Forever courses.

My Son did the bronze course last week in Rotorua and was very positive about it and booked for the next one, at $20 for a full day its good value.

Apparently they are worth $250.

I feel less bad about paying $500 a year for my 35 year old BMW.

Even more surprising was a three page spread on getting your learners for older riders.

AA are now in the Motorcycle Training business ( no cynical comments please :innocent:)

Goes on to say how the Driving School GM is a motorcycle rider and that the AA do care about us :grouphug:

There is a blurb on ATGATT shared with an add for a Retirement Village , so if your reading this Cassina all your bases are covered.:innocent:

I also renewed my AA membership as they probably need to recoup the $700 for transporting my bike from Timaru to Auckland.:niceone:

Cover page has article on the 100 people killed in cars not wearing seatbelts, or 42% of the total.

30% of drivers killed in crashes between 2004 and 2009 had some form of impairing substance in their blood.

Makes you think about who you are sharing the road with.

The AA

A different kind of bike project.

A while back, prior to my first NZ track day, I had a quick scout around my game collection to see if, by some bizarre twist of fate, Pukekohe might feature as a playable track and give me a chance to have a virtual bash at giving it the beans for a few laps.

Not unsurprising, it wasn't featured, but what did surprise me was I couldn't find any representation of any NZ track anywhere. So with recent weather keeping me off the bike and out of the drafty shed, I guessed I'd have a go at making the game myself.

Here is a clip of the first track... The freebie audio samples I'm using are pretty poor, so you might want to turn your audio down first :)

Jeez...YouTube video compression is the worst.

Still early days, so it's pretty rough.

The top down view of the track was easy enough to come by, but for the elevations I had to rely on memory as there seems to be no publicly available topo or lidar data available that is of usable resolution. I also didn't make it look like the actual track as I'd need to go out and do a photo survey etc... which I'd like to do at a later stage for all the motorparks.

A different kind of bike project.

I've come and gone from KB a few times over the last few years, the going mainly due to some of the rude shit that gets posted here. A few threads started after drinking weren't very smart on my part, but I don't think that's any excuse for some of the comments.

Most members here seem like decent people. But a few of you need to either get a life or get some counselling.

Can't inflate tyre at gas station

The valve for inflating my tyre is blocked by the spokes when I try in a gas station. I've heard you can get small valve 'extensions' that can be temporarily used to make the valve more accessible.

Just wondering if there are any drawbacks of either mental or rubber ones and if there is anywhere you recommend buying them in NZ (or just go to eBay?) something like this http://ift.tt/2toIFsb

Supercheap only have the straight extensions which won't help.

The 2017 Election Thread

So:

-After the election National will be the most popular individual party at low to mid 40s unless something really spectacular happens...
-Labour must play nice with Greens and NZ First to get in ... but the Greens and NZ First aren't playing nicely with each other at present
-Labour's deputy leader is more popular than their leader
-Greens want to make being on the benefit a borderline viable career choice (well perhaps not really but ...)
-Winston Peters looks as happy as a pig in shit and will probably be the king-maker
-Minor parties seem to have some big personalites that could possibly win a seat regardless of policies.
-We have no Donald Trump

MT07 Fun

Been a bit quiet on the forums lately  but I am still alive and kicking!!!

After much consideration, researching and tips from some of you I decided to get an MT07la. I felt that if I had gone with an R3 I would have got bored fairly quickly and also with all of the hills around the South Island it would probably be a little asthmatic. Despite the cold miserable winter days I have been getting out there most weeks weather permitting and enjoying the new (to me) world of motorcycling. So far my favourite ride is down to Tairoa Head and back. Who knew that a monotonous winding trip in a car would be a motorcyclists dream lol! I have also been practicing slow manovouring and emergency braking, getting a feel for the bike and preparing myself as to what to expect under heavy braking etc.

Only another 200 odd km left until its 1000km service so I should probably book that in sometime soon. Anyway enough of my ramblings on, just thought I would share a quick update with you all!

Who to contact about dangerous road design?

As above. I passed an accident this morning which really gave me the shits. Just minutes after it happened. Fair to say it has given me a big shake, I travel that piece of road everyday, cautiously. The accident made me realise perhaps not cautiously enough.

I have no intention of posting any details but I'm absolutely certain the road layout was the biggest culprit.

Where to start getting something done about it? It's a State Highway.

Replacement indicators - relay size

I have replaced my rear turning signals (front to be changed out soon). The existing bulbs are 12v23w the new 12v5w. This means (I believe) that they will not flash - presently the rear do not flash but stay on (these are now 5W and the front 23W).

I assume that i have to swap out the relay for something with less resistance? Can anyone confirm if this is correct? Presumably even once the bulbs match (both 5W) the flasher relay will still have too great resistance and will need swapping out?

I have read the other option is to install an inline resister but the relay seems to be the cleaner version.

Thanks

SV1000 fork swap

I have a Suzuki SV1000 and I've been looking at doing a GSXR inverted fork swap on it.
benefits seem to be less flex, better quality suspension, and better brakes.

looks like a straight swap using the triple tree and forks from a K4, the only modification required is to fit the dampener to the SV.

Supposedly all K4 and some K3 and K5 600, 750 and 1000 front ends are usable.
I was wondering if there's any difference between the forks height and performance between the different size bikes.

on That note I'm on the lookout for a K4 GSXR1000 front end....

Machining Bellmouths

Since my thread on Alloy wheel repairers was so successful at getting a result, I thought I would start this one with the hope of similar results. So in the ESE thread Wobbly said that Keihin PWK Airstrikers have fences on the bottom part of the bellmouth to get better response at low throttle openings but these fences badly affected the airflow at high throttle openings (the one I am really interested in on my bucket) but since I want to keep using the PWK with it's Throttle position sensor,Solenoid Power Jet and short over all length, I did as Wobbly suggested and ground away the fences but he also said even better results could be had by reprofiling the bellmouth of the PWK to that of a PWM carb, Since I do not have a PWM to study I googled some images of PWM's and they appear to have the similar bellmouth profile to an old PJ carb I had left over from when I had a NF4 Honda RS125. Studying the PJ bellmouth it appears that either Keihin or HRC had in a lathe turned away the part of the standard dirt bike PJ bellmouth that clamps to the aircleaner rubber boot to give it a trumpet like shape over the cone like shape of the standard carb. The only way I can think of to do it would be with a CNC lathe (but if someone can suggest a way to do it on a manual lathe I am all ears) So the question is there a engineering outfit (preferably in Christchurch or surrounding area) with a CNC lathe that is able and more important willing to something like this?

A quick look on the internet suggested Mark Sutton Engineering maybe the sort of small outfit that would do this type of work, Also Automatic lathes and Arcore Engineering came up but these look like bigger outfits that maybe not be interested in this type of piece work?

So.... any suggestions on tour companies, areas in Aussie or anything 'must see or do' that I could base this trip around.

Custom headers/mid pipes?

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I was wondering if there's any good places to get headers/midpipes built anywhere from central-upper North Island?
I have a 1000 Supersport with slip ons but it looks like no one makes headers for this model(only 900ss)

So far I've found Custom Chambers up in Auckland, does anyone here have any experience with them?

Cheers.

Quasimoto leathers

I'm back riding again after a break of a few years and have pulled my old gear out of storage.

It's a full set of Quasimoto jacket, pants, gloves & boots that I bought from Quasi when he first setup selling from his garage in Hamilton.

It all seemed like reasonable gear at the time, but I'm wondering if over time it's been discovered that it was substandard or something like that and it should be binned.

I have no reason to suspect it, but just don't want to be out riding in gear that is no good and I didn't hear about it because I haven't been in these forums for several years.

Paranoia rules - Advice from Nick Ienatch and Cycle World

The following article is written in the USA so there are slight differences in culture. Cellphone use while driving is illegal here, so that just doesn't happen - right?
Previous comments on KB suggest we may not all agree with everything he writes, but it is all worth serious consideration.
