Non fling chain lube

These are both a fail. The Castrol is useless - most ends up on the back wheel, not the chain. The Penrite 10 Tenths is better, but still gets on the wheel.

I'm trying to find something to use in winter when the roads are wet. My normal chain lube is some magical Du Pont stuff that never leaves marks on the wheel, but doesn't stop rust if the chain gets wet.

Good light adventure bike

I folks after some input, I currently own a Bmw Sertao. Its a great bike for on and off road, but I only way 60kg so its a bit of a lump to chuck about. Thinking of selling and getting something that is lighter, still with a good fuel size tank and fun on and off road. Bmw is worth about $7000 to $8000, so don't wish to spend more preferably less.

Thanks Leoagogo

New Rider - Saying Hi - Blenheim

Hi from Blenheim! - I've always been pretty keen on the whole 2 wheel thing,
rode a couple of mate's farm bikes occasionally when I was a teen and my old
man has been riding for the last 30 odd years on and off so it made sense that
I would eventually get into it myself but still a novice 100%.

26 years old, just got my learners in the last couple of weeks and bought a
2015 Yamaha R3 to kick things off - really pleased with the bike so far!
Really working at my own pace right now getting comfortable on the bike and road
so in no rush to get anywhere fast. Looking forward to doing the Bronze course later this year.

Just riding to work at the moment (very short urban ride) which has made everyday far more
enjoyable but looking forward to getting out and enjoying some of NZ's roads on 2 wheels.

I really joined this forum to learn a bit although from my lurking, I've found
there is plenty of advice to be taken with a grain of salt around here.
Always looking to up skill and learn a few tricks to make things safer, easier and more comfortable.

That pretty much sums it up for now... looking forward to getting out there!

Ewc 2018

A little late but does anyone else here follow the FIM Endurance World Championship?

We've got the season finale coming up at the end of July with the prestigious Suzuka 8hr which I'm keen as for!

I usually stream the full race start to finish with some other mates and a few cartons of booze. Anyone else keen for this sort of thing?

Yamaha's factory livery is looking pretty schmick this year, celebrating 20 years of R1's

Sometimes it seems the universe wants to kill me

In three days, four sketchy incidences. First a found wheel skip going up a hil,l slightly wet with tar seal patches. Found skipped on a patch that would have possibly been an off into the bank and I'm thinking something broken. But it passed in a split second and all was well. The second was in the lane split where two cars dam near hit each others (as I was attempting to split). I pulled back, they swayed in and as they went out I went through. But that same day on the way home was worse. In front of me a 4wd kind of drifted right. I started to back off then he/she swerved violently back onto the road. There is a concrete divider there due to the new highway construction. If they had hit it on their right they would have swerved in on my. I saw it all play out in my head as I rode on (3rd time in one day the universe is trying to kill me).

So I thought about it and one thing was clear to me above the others. I have closed my following distance to much. I am often in 1.2 seconds verses 2 seconds so I need to sit back a bit more (when not passing). I took notice of my distance the next day all seemed of. The following day riding a test bike with ABS (first time using ABS) going into town another massive lane swerver! Right in front of me. I felt the flutter just for a moment in the breaks as ABS hit. I'd have been ok either way but again my distance is close. I get away with that 1.2 most of the time due to luck and attention. Attention mind is simply not the same all the time and luck well... long may it last. That 3rd one mind the truck. That one would has hit me hard likely into the traffic on the inside line. I was that bit close and the truck barely missed a concrete barrier between lanes. I didn't detect it soon enough. Looking back the signs started a good second sooner and I know the area so generally I'd have noticed and back up sooner (looked behind etc got ready to avoid). This time I was just a bit distracted and stayed to close.

Still I am here so the universe must love me. For now. Because luck it seems at times is looking after me more than I am.

2017 CBR1000RR verses 2015 CBR1000RR (after over 100,000kms)

At 113,000 kms I on my 2015 CBR1000RR I just now have a 2017 CBR1000RR (I danced both times). I rode some other bikes before deciding and I've had the new bike for a two days and 300kms (rode and round town / country).

It is in B mode on run in, Right from the start it is lighter and you can feel it. Just taking it off the stand I could tell, that was really the deciding moment. The 2015 is also amazing at 200kg wet for a 1000cc supersport but the new model is just lighter again. Low balanced weight.
Quite a bit higher in the seat. I am not tall so I've gone from mostly flat foot to balls only. Still no problem to navigate and easy to push about.

Ride by wire seems ok. There are lots of settings (yet to explore). I remember the 2015 was/is quite odd in engine breaking. It seems to have none, then it kicks in fairly hard and eases away. The delay is a good half second or more. The new one has settings which I am yet to mess about with as it is it seems similar.
My basic intention is to run it in (varying speeds) and to ride it mostly unlocked for a while (the last one had no rider aids including ABS) and then mess about with them.

Still as it is in b mode the handling is exceptional. It feels well dialed in from the shop from the start (but we will see if it can be better). Both bikes are great but I can just feel this one is easier again to go fast. It has quite a two stroke feel being light and power on from everywhere.
It feel like the distance between crotch and bars is less so I feel a little more upright. I normally ride two hours five days. I took it about and hour and a half and it was mostly fine (pain in wrists from slightly different angle I will get use to soon enough).
The seat seems hard however I put over 100k on the last one so has custom ass wear. I'm looking forward to unlocking it and I am absolutely going to take it to the track (again and again).

All the blades are great bikes. The 2017 right from the start to me is clearly the best (in terms of easy to go fast and ride generally) as you would hope for their latest bike (90% new or revised parts from previous model).
I'm looking forward to clocking this one over 100,000kms assuming I continue to survive. I've had some patchy moments recently so ABS etc seems a good choice, give myself the best fighting chance of surviving long distance commuting I can.

I do not want to be ruined by electronics and will continue to ride other bikes. For all the latest sports bikes the classics still tend to give me the biggest grins.

The new blade really is amazing as are I am sure the whole range of current super sports long may they continue to be made. First thing tomorrow (being sunday) when I get up... I am going for a ride. First oil change next week and run in complete.

1990 Honda XR200 - Rebuild

Hi guys,

I purchased an XR200R a while back in AIWI condition. I had no other info on the condition of the bike apart from that it was not getting a spark. After some mucking around I managed to change the Stator and finally kicked it into life. Unfortunately that life was filled with blue smoke, massive amounts of it even on idle.

I decided to remove the head and inspect it a little closer (First time I've attempted this) I'll attach the images Ive got so far.

I've ordered a top end kit (Piston, rings, gaskets etc) but Im worried that the actual head on this might be damaged. If you can see the valves, there is a rather large for lack of a better term "hole" in between the valves. It doesn't spread into each valve. There is also a small chip on the outside of the cavity.

If someone could please give me their opinion of whether or not this will be detrimental to the running of the bike once put back together or if it will be fine.

I've checked the inside of the cylinder and there is still plenty of visible honing etc so I'm confident its fine.

Any help or comments appreciated!

Minor cosmetic repairs to CBR300R

Hi all, would appreciate your help
The previous owner of my 2015 CBR300R clearly had a little crash on both sides at some stage.
I’m in Auckland but I’m struggling to get in touch with anyone who stocks CBR300R spare parts.
It’s just minor stuff like a new indicator on the front left. New fairing at the front on the left side. Maybe a new tail fairing as well.
Plus also thinking of a new exhaust, just not sure if I get a slip-on or just try to get an OEM piece.
Anyone know where I can source some of these parts??
Thanks.

WTB WTB: Kawasaki KLX250 front forks

Hi, I'm looking for a set of front forks for a KLX250. These are upside down forks. The bike is a 2002 but I think the KLX250 models have the same upside down forks from about 2000 onwards. If I can't get the complete forks I'd like the top tubes from the forks - someone may have used the bottom tubes and have the top tubes hanging around. Cheers.

LED bulbs now banned

I've been putting LED headlight bulbs in my 1990's bikes for a few years, and really value the extra light output at night and the increase in daylight conspicuity. I was in at my local VTNZ getting a WOF in the weekend, and I was advised by the bike expert there (actually a genuinely nice, helpful guy) that as of 1 June this year, LED bulbs are now banned in all vehicles that were designed to use halogen bulbs. Apparently the extra brightness is a problem in reflectors/lenses that are not designed for LED. He also agreed that this was actually a benefit for invisible bikes, but then he also thinks louder (but not stupid loud) pipes are a safety feature.

He was kind enough to pass my bike with a warning for next time, but this now means that I will have to switch out my LEDs before WOF time. Don't tell anyone, but I will be putting them back in afterwards.

BMW 9Cento (concept) Build it please!

I like this. Will it make the production line? I hope. Coming from an early adopter of the F800S when it came out I would be tempted by this. The F800 lacked power for me, maybe another 100c will be enough to enjoy.

Unlike most concepts that are usually all style and won't work in the real world this could be a stylish, fun and practical bike all at the same time. Small enough to be a good commuter, light yet enough power (900cc parallel twin) to provide some excitement, enough weather protection to tour while still looking racy.

Not sure the handbag sized panniers will do much though. Still the idea of magnet attaching quick clip on panniers has merit.
Mind you, is it that far removed from my current MT-09, with it's small screen, hand guards and soft throw over bags, what's the difference?

The prototype in these picture, courtesy of Motorcycledaily.com, looks damn near complete and production level ready so just maybe.. And that seat looks so well padded it must be super comfy.
