Taupo LAMS Only Track Day

LAMS riders, it's your turn to have a track day all to yourselves, pay per session, so if after one session it turns out to be not really your thing, you haven't had to waste money paying for a whole day.
There will be expierenced riders & racers there to assist with any advice or questions, plus shadow riders, to lead or follow as required to help you get in the groove.
You can also go next door to the club circuit & pay $10 for three laps on a sidecar of your choice, to complete a day you won't forget for a long time.
Maybe some clever person could repost it in a larger format. I haven't got past thumbnails yet. Thanks.

2005 Suzuki GN250

I have a Suzuki GN250 2005 that needs a little bit of work.
It's still ride-able but needs a new rear light (brake lights work fine.)
It's missing a side panel and the oil sump nut weeps slightly.
It's only done 7000kms and other than those issues is very tidy.
I was just wondering on a rough estimate to how much it would be worth?

I appreciate any help. Thank you.

Engagement With Motorcyclists

If I wanted to engage with motorcyclists, where would I start?

On here? Motorcycle shops? Clubs? Facebook?

The subject would be our safety on the road. Not a sexy subject, and one which isn't sold easily.

Nobody thinks it'll happen to them. The crash. So nobody sees the need to change to prevent it.

Where would someone start?

183km'h through speed camera

Since another KBer has gained some sort of notoriety with 182 kmh through a speed camera and his tally for replies is now in the sixties I'm thinking of going out today and trying for a new high score of 183.
Will I get my 15 minutes of fame on here and it make my life better, or is it not worth it?

Dangers of E Bikes

The Future is E bikes, better for environment, healthy and so on.

Or are they?

Some stats in from Holland are not convincing me to buy one.

[QUOTE]More cycling fatalities than deaths in cars

Disturbing news this morning: more people died on a bike than in a car in the Netherlands in 2017. A total of 206 people died on bicycles and 201 in cars. This is the first time that ever happened. The figure for cycling deaths is also the highest in 11 years. The fatality increase is completely male. The number of killed men went from 125 in 2016 to 148 in 2017. For women the total decreased a little, from 64 in 2016 to 58 in 2017. And yet, when you look at deaths per cycled kilometres, then cycling is becoming safer, not more dangerous.[QUOTE]

Great day out

Took the opportunity of some amazing weather and the day off work to get out on the bikes.

Cruised from Newton up SH16, through Kumeu, Helensville etc to Kaukapakapa for a brief check in/pause/chat. Then up past Gibbs Farm, and through the road to Wellsford/Warkworth, and on to Matakana. Around the hill with a detour to a lookout at Port Arthur (nearly at Taporo), and back via SH16 Twin Coast discovery route.

Bloody awesome day. Loads of twisties, not toooo much traffic; only one absolute dickhead (who held us up for about 20kms) deciding to perform a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre approaching a blind corner. Everyone else driving fairly well, loads of bikes out!

Speed camera flashed at 182kph

So 2 weeks ago I received a letter informing me a stationery speed camera clocked me at 182 kph on a rural road there was no fine just right down the bottom of the page stating 'you may receive an additional letter with court dates etc'. I have emailed asking for a photo and also done some research on what I'm looking at including fines, loss of liceanse for 28 days, careless, dangerous or wreckless driving witch is a criminal offence . Anyone had or heard of similar cases and the outcomes? ,I need my liceanse for work I'm looking at pleading guilty and more than likely trying diversion... If or when I get a follow up letter.

Cheers.

2000 Bandit 250V flooding 1,4 cylinders.

Heya,

I have a bandit 250 that has been sitting for a bit now and had to get a new bike to replace. Basically it started running badly till it was just running on two cylinders, guzzling much more fuel, and i could smell plenty of unburnt fuel in the exhaust. I initially thought maybe coils but the plugs were very wet and fouled for 1 and 4 replacing the spark plugs got it going again and got me home but the issue returned. Anyone had one of these and had this happens?
A guy from the Barrys Point Road Suzuki dealer recons they do this often, various other cosmetic and noncosmetic issues with bike but other than this it was running bloody well all year round.

Any tips or recommendations for the best people to take it to, ideally on or close to north shore cos who knows how far it will ride before it karks it again.

Cheers

Requesting DIY vacuum brake bleeder or assistance

Heya,

Had a go with the search box and couldn't find any similar posts. Basically when I had the handlebars upside down for replacing the mount on my near new mt07 from a low speed lowside, I pumped the brakes :) ... rookie mistake. A fair amount of pressure returned and they work okay, still plenty better than my old bike and faster to stop than cars but really really squishy at times.

I've read that I'm better of using a vacuum bleeder for lots of air bubbles since they will work their way up as I go through the fluid, and I want to get them back to 100%, all the ones in nz are well above a hundred dollars which I'd prefer not to spend, basically I'm just hoping someone can give me any ideas on making one myself since it just needs to pull a vacuum on it, or if they have one I can borrow in Auckland for some form of reimbursement that would be even better!

Formatting probably sucks big time on this since I wrote on my phone, sorry in advance and thanks in advance for any help!

89 GPZ1000RX stutter

Some old school knowledge / commentary needed if you can.
Low km' s 20,000 recently from Japan. Starts and runs fine except about 3200 thru to 4000 rpm where it sounds like it is sucking not enough air or not enough fuel and feels under powered. Worse if under load. If you role through the rev range slowly seems fine. Below and above this range bike runs well.
Mechanic suggests all set up like this for emission testing. How ever I have owned a few big bikes from this era most recently last year a fzr1000 and it didn't behave like this.
Carbs have been synched and checked but not ultrasonic cleaned. Awaiting the shop to have their ultrasonic cleaner fixed.
Any opinions on what else to look at if ultrasonic doesn't work ? Plugs, leads , coils etc. Does the ignition change thru this rev range , spark get weaker / stronger ??
Cheers for help.

1ST rego for WR

Hi Kaybeas. Tim here. Fresh member. Recently scored a 06 WR450 and cos I live 1 km away from 70 kms of uninterupted length of ever changing coastline, I would love to register this bike.

Issue #1: Its been regd on a EB farm class exemption and never had to have a wof. This would be be cool but it only allows for a 20km radius of the farm and I would like to be able to do some of the paper roads and moutain trials round here.

Issue #2: It is a Japanese used import.

I have got all the legal requirements, lights , horn ect all on and working so it is road worthy fit type deal.

Any ideas what to expect when I show up to VINZ or VTNZ ?
Is any of those 2 easier to deal with ? One time when I was looking at road reging a KX5, VINZ told me just go home and dont bother son.

Any ideas or experience here would be great !

Best cheers !

This is a darn nice bike to ride.Rear tyre is almost brand new. Starter clutch was a weakness with these and has been upgraded.
I'd be happy to trade a smaller (ok truth is LOWER) bike.
I love riding this bike but I'm a short ass and round town its a bit too tall for me.

The war on Chicken

So I've recently seen some TV. There was a thing on the news about how chicken should have warning labels on it because women are too stupid to cook properly or something.
Then there's this ad where she gets a thigh and drumstick and wipes the bench with it, the inference being that chicken meat is...cancer or something?

Obvs tegel are the devil, and colonel sanders has a lot to answer for, but what is up with this anti-chicken movement lately?
Chickens are good people.

This is an excellent interview with Matt Levatich who is the CEO of Harley Davidson.

Ignore the brand-specific aspects of it if it suits your biases the part that resonated with me was the "build riders, not bikes" part and the parts about how we all learned to ride thirty years ago and we think we remember but dont.

Really good, and an interesting and thoughtful man.

Downloadable map app (off-line use) for android?

Anyone know of an app that I can download city maps with? Presently I use my smart phone and Google-maps when I become 'geographically embarassed' on the job but thought it would be more user-friendly on a tablet. I'm too tight to do a data plan on my tablet so I've had a quick look for downloadable maps but couldn't find what I want.

Basically a downloadable map of Christchurch that I can zoom in close enough to see all the street names as it's usually the out of the way places like Scrotum Lane that I can't find.

Go.

House Builders (investment)

Hello kiwibikers, I could use some advice on building a house. I'm wanting a cheaper build that will appreciate nicely in the short/mid term. Apart from location, do you guys and gals have advice on building companies, design traps to avoid, features that bode well for resale value, etc...

I'm thinking 300-350k on house as turnkey, but sourcing the section myself. Given the turnkey nature of it, some advice on which building companies are worth a go would be much appreciated. Location is Bay of Plenty, I'll probably live in it myself.

High Idle 2500-4000 warmed up

Hello.
My bike was running fine. Yesterday riding home I noticed it was idling at 3000. This morning 3000 for the most part but it did hunt between 2000 and 2500 and even go to 4000 at a couple of stops.

It was out in the rain 2 days ago but been ridden I(dry it out), and not been in the rain since. What could I should I check?

On another note the idle does increase when I hard turn right on the handle bars, the throttle body is not moving when this happens tho (wtf no big deal tho I think).

Ideas and help would be appreciated.

The folly of an L plater...

Now I don't get overly surprised when I see dumb stuff being done, but here's one I'll share with you all.

Sunday morning around 0830, city bound (in the car) on the Southern Motorway in persistent rain. Around Manukau spotted an L plated bike moving along a little under the limit in the left lane. No big deal, but coming up to my off ramp at Mt Wellington there were a few vehicles moving a bit slower so slotted in behind. No stress, doing my mirror and head check before moving onto the offramp this same L plater is now undertaking me on the shoulder!! Can you imagine how this numpty would have been RBA'd by someone who doesn't mirror and/or head check prior to moving onto the ramp? Anyway, just eased off the throttle a touch and this temporary biker doesn't even take the ramp, instead he slots in front of me in the left lane and continues towards the city. All this while lane 2 and 3 are almost empty, so no valid reason to undertake, let alone in an illegal fashion :brick::angry2::mad:

Yeah, so lucky for this L plater my situational awareness is sound, just can't help but feel he'll get bowled before long :brick::brick:

Anyway, rant over :woohoo::whocares:

Bikes Ducati Multistrada 1200 S 2011

Due to change in circumstances I am looking to sell my fantastic Ducati. I'm the second owner from new and it has always been maintained regardless of cost. Any worn bits have been replaced during the service schedule. Recent parts including new pads and rotors, drivetrain and fluids.

The bike comes fully loaded with full Ducati hard luggage, ABS, DTC, heated grips, keyless ignition, 'skyhook' fully electrically adjustable suspension with 4 riding modes (Urban, Touring, Enduro, Sport) with suspension and engine maps adjusted by a press of a button - truly making this 4 bikes in one.

Extras include Termigoni exhaust and power commander, putting out 160BHP.

Pictures should speak for themselves and a testament to how it has been looking after, happy to take any questions.

What could I have done..?

Hey
So I’m thinking about a minor spill I had on my bike a couple of years ago.
I was heading to work down Newton rd one wet morning, I was splitting between the cars while going over the motorway bridge. Some lady ran out from behind of the cars in traffic and popped up about 1 or 2m directly in front of me. Worried I was gonna bowl her, I grabbed a fist full of brake
and locked up the front tyre which slid on the white lines. It was either her or me. She looks at me as she continues to walk away, apologises while I’m on my arse, I shake my head at her. Luckily I could ride the rest of the way to work and only had a bump on my knee.

What could I have done differently? Who was at fault? What would happen if insurance had to get involved?

Cheers

Bikes Yamaha FJ1200 1991

This FJ has been a faithful and reliable bike for the 6 years I've owned it. Built for comfort and touring long distances, she will pull from low speed in top gear all day with a pillion and luggage and never complain. A big bike that doesn't feel that way when riding it.

I've carried out maintenance over the past years, consisting mainly of oil, spark plug and a rear tyre change. I converted the stock oil filter to an RPM spin on oil filter set up, making changing filters a breeze. I still have the original filter housing. I replaced the clutch slave seals in 2012 and this month had the fork seals replaced.

It comes with two Givi panniers and a top box. One of the locks on the panniers is broken but other pannier and top box is lockable. I have the keys, too.

I also have the Haynes repair manual for the bike.

WOF was issued 16 March, rego current up to June 28, 2018.

I've bought another bike and apparently can't own two so this has to go!

Alpinestars Bregenz Pants

Has anyone had a size/fit problem with these pants?-I recently purchased a pair of Bregenz pants on line that were size XL.-I had checked with the Alpinestars sizing chart on their website which showed XL would be correct for me.
On receipt I find even though the label says XL, the waist would be lucky to 34" instead of charted 37" to 39"-the leg length is also out by 3"-on top of these one would have to have weird legs as the knee protectors are half way down my shins.
I note that this model pant was deleted from the Alpinestars range and I wonder if this mis-sizing had anything to do with that.
I have bought a lot of Alpinestars gear over time and this is the first time I have struck a sizing problem-anyone else have a similar experience with Bregenz.

Back in the game

Hi all,

I'm back on a bike after about 3 years of not owning one. The trouble now is that I've moved to Palmerston North so I'd love to have a bit of advice thrown my way.

-Good places to ride.
-Recommended workshops.
-Popular dates/routes to potentially meet some fellow riders. I'm a bit of a loner by nature, but nothing really beats the feeling of a group ride.

I've been riding for a few years now and am fairly experienced, but have been through enough tumbles and tickets to know that I prefer a more relaxed ride these days. Plus I've just bought my dream bike and plan on keeping it at "dream bike" status.

All the best,
FH

tough to see anyone in this position, far less a man whose already shown us so much of what grit and determination can acheive.
I remember him racing here with stiches from surgery still in, he had little stamina so would go mad for a few laps and demoralise the opposition, get a healthy lead so when he got too tired he had a buffer and usually it was enough to win.

the latest bike rider has an article on the shiny side up events.
*They paid Brittany Morrow to come all the way from the states to talk about all the gear all the time
*They paid the stunt riders to do dangerous things on bikes, with a t-shirt, jeans (maybe draggin but didn't look like it) and sandshoes on

Parts & Accessories Wanting to Trade KDX Exhaust

Hi,

I would like a stock KDX silencer and pipe, I currently have an aftermarket one, does anyone want to swap? The pipe has a couple of dents as per normal, but seems in good nick, I just need a quieter pipe as mine is too loud.

WTB WTB- Honda Goldwing 1500/1800 flat six engine

Hi,
I'm after a Honda Goldwing engine for a project. Ideally a 1500 but an 1800 would work too (I am unsure if the 1800 is a longer engine though? Space is tight)

I really only need a bare engine at the very least however the manifolds could be handy for the flanges to build out from. I have asked about the wreckers but so far only one has been found and its a bit too flash for my budget ;) Even a non-running engine would be handy because my project idea in mind has yet to be be proven to work out until I can actually nut it out on the bench.

I'm just hoping that someone on this forum might just have 'that old crashed bike collecting dust behind the shed with an engine that was fine ten years ago' sort of thing kicking about :)

otherwise any help or hints at where I might try for an engine would be happily accepted!

Cheers all,

Alex.

Commonwealth Games

I've been watching a bit of the games.

I've come to some conclusions:

Walk-running is weird. I've stopped watching this as watching grown adults walking with carrots up their butts makes me uncomfortable.

Transgender - there is only the NZ 'girl' doing weight lifting, all others appear to have their naturally born parts. I have my doubts about the world becoming this PC ....

Beach volleyball. Great sport.

Table Tennis - I really, really think it is time to make the table larger.

Cycling - it's great to watch on the dedicated track. Fuckers in their weekend tights in CHCH should piss off our roads and find a track.

Gymnastics - I don't care about the gender this is amazing to watch. Speaking of genders I do find it odd in this more 'enlightened' age that the lads wear a singlet and long pants (tights?), and the ladies still wear what amounts to a sparkly swimsuit wedged halfway up their bum cheeks.

Bikes Suzuki Dr250S(E?) 1990 -93

Price Due to putting in $700 in parts and service. New oil/filter, Sprockets, chain, fork seals, fork oil front mudguard, with less than 5 km on them. New tires with spare, brand new oem performance racing dual return throttle cable. Geared for higher top end with 14 front and 48 rear Unknown mileage. I have all indicators, speedo and can fit if you want. The speedometer cable snapped and I didn't need it so I just took it off and didn't replace it. Have full service manual. At some stage a previous owner has upgraded it to have inverted shocks. Which had a full tear down and rebuild a couple months ago. Wheel dampiners are in perfect condition. I have had no running issues at all. Owned for a couple of years. I run it every week so it doesn't deteriorate.
Kickstart only. Has decompression lever to help starting it.
Was registered once. I have no plate or record of it. Engine number and chasis number all match up.

Am looking to sell and get a road legal bike. Keen for trades for a WOF, REG bike

Not sure of exact year but its around 1990.

What did you do in the weekend, Jim?

I'm thinking there's very few in the world lucky enough to experience blasting a vintage Ducati down a country road on a sunny autumn day.

And that is what I got to do this weekend.

Starting the old girl is a bit of a palaver, especially if she has not been run for a while.

So brake check, tyres, plugs, fuel and a quick polish took until mid afternoon.

Then comes the fun and games of actually getting the motor running - kick starting a 900 motor does take a wee bit of doing.

The memory that comes with blasting down a twisting tree-lined country road at around 4250 rpm is just absolute magic.

And so it begins...

http://www.msn.com/en-nz/money/perso...dk7Q&ocid=iehp

As much as I loathe quoting MSN as a source, It's only taken 7 days for the knock on æffect of a minimum wage rise to start impacting the costs of goods and services. Which is namely one of the reasons why I'm generally against such a rise - everything ends up more expensive, and those on minimum wage end up right were they started.

So here's the question - is there another way that might actually work?

Overtaking another bike

I'm riding back from Port Waikato and catch up to another bike where there is a series of corners before the bridge. The rider makes no effort to let me pass and keeps riding maybe 1-2 metres to the left of the centreline.

So was he not checking his mirrors, or just couldn't make the effort to move over?

This has happened quite a few times this summer. I expect it from Harley riders, but to be honest, most of them have been great and let me past.

Gear Free Arai Quantum Visor and sidepods (White) with mounts

Cleaning out the basement and was chucking out a helmet (damaged in a crash) but thought if anyone needs a visor (clear) and side pods with mounts it might as well go to a good home.

Yellow Pinlock Insert

In bright conditions, I don't see well from bright areas into dark areas - like riding into a shady corner. I use a dark pinlock insert to reduce contrast which helps a lot.

Some time ago I saw advertised a yellow insert with some mention of contrast in the blurb. So I decided to try one.

Arrived yesterday. Put it into use this morning. Took it out again 5km later. Put the dark back in.

I don't know how they are supposed to work but today, in town, riding towards the sun on a clear morning, I could not read the rego of the vehicle in front. It was as though the visor had misted up. Light scattered everywhere. Turn t'other way and it is fine - as long as the sun is behind you.

Anyone know anything about them? My experience probably wouldn't help sales much...

Well wouldn't this make motorcycling much more fun

70kmh on pretty much every road in the country seems like an idea that isn't likely to find much support......

Honda RC166

This popped up in my e-mail today. I always wondered why they revved the shit out of them - if you don't the engine dies - explained in the text and happens on the TT lap a few times. Must have been difficult to ride.

I like the way he short shifts at 17,000 to respect the old motor!

Amazing stuff for the era - come on Honda what's next?

How to Display Rego

I've just finished putting on a tail tidy and while the plate and plate light and indicators are all happy and legal, I'm at a bit of a quandary on the best way to display the rego and WOF. The dealer originally mounted it perpendicular to the plate under a reflector - you couldn't see it without walking up to a stopped bike and looking. With my tail tidy I don't have an obvious mounting point like this. It'll be unattractive (and put the rego holder at risk) to have the rego sticking up from above the plate as wind would eventually vibrate and weaken it.

I see a vendor has a little tube in which you could roll your rego and presumably mount from the bottom of your plate. I've seen at least one version of my bike using something like this out on the roads. The downside would be greater weight and stress on my plate itself.

Does the rego need to be always visible like the plate, or does it need to be presentable on request (ie tucked away but able to be pulled from behind the plate on demand)? How do you display yours?

Early model SV650

Hi

Mate is looking for a LAMS bike and has stumbled on an early model SV650 on Trademe. It is the first shape (rouded "praying mantis" faiings) and is a UK? import with the speedo in Miles.

There are a couple of SV650 variants listed on theLAMS approved bikes list. Is this likely to be one of them?
