2-3 month trip from Australia, need some advice!

Hey guys!

I'm planning a trip to New Zealand from mid December to mid to late February from Australia. Potentially landing in Christchurch.

I'm thinking of buying a 250 - 450cc secondhand motorbike and my budget is $2000 - $3000 AUS. I got around Tassie on my 250cc just fine but would prefer to have something slightly stronger I guess, at least a 350cc if I can.
I do feel apprehensive about the whole legislation and insurance process though, can you get short term registration? I can only find things like 6 month reg but that's too long for me.
And also not sure which insurance companies are good/ cheap, I'd probably only get third party for such a short period.

I'd have to grab panniers and all that kind of stuff too, I know I could probably hire it but it might be cheaper to just buy them. Just a student so I'm trying to do this trip I've been wanting to do but for a relatively affordable price, I will be camping a lot and staying in hostels.

That whole part of organising the buying, registration and insurance stuff is the only thing that really makes me nervous because I don't know how different it is to how they do it in Aus, but I'm sure it's a bit more lenient than here because people go to nz specifically to ride motorbike and do tours.

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Thank you!!

Clean and re-lubing old drivechain.

As a first motorcycle I'm doing up my dads old bike, its a 1972 Ossa trials bike and is need of a lot of elbow grease. Speaking of grease, I'm trying to tackle the drive chain, its got surface rust and caked up dirt mixed up with ancient grease. I've heard scrubbing it up and spraying a bit of WD-40 is a big no no and my dad recalls using something like boiled grease to really soak the contacting surfaces. I just wanted to check whats the best way to both clean up the rust but also get the thing real lubed up.

cheers

Current Disruption (Geo-Blocking)

Afternoon,
I do have a separate thread on "future disruption" going at the moment, but
this one is about "current disruption" (specifically geo-blocking).

I've been doing some web searching and trying to determine the "best" way
to solve this problem at "low cost", but now it's starting to niggle me.

I've put off submitting this question to the forum, but from doing a search
on the KB website, it seems to me some of you might have already found
a solution. So here goes.

There are one or two TV series on overseas servers (free content) that I
wanted to stream and to watch on the PC (e.g. the current PBS series on
the Vietnam War).

http://ift.tt/2jBbgpN

The trouble is: When I try and play the videos, I get the standard message
"this content is not available in your region due to rights". Hum bug !

I'm not trying to connect to (say) NetFlix US in order to access and stream
videos on a regular basis - just the occasional video that is NZ geo-blocked.

Hence I was looking for a low cost option for occasional usage.

So, folks, what are my best options ?

1. Do I use a smart DNS service (such as UnoDNS or UnLocator) to try and get
around the geo-block ?

or

2. Do I go a little further and subscribe to a VPN service ?

From what I see, the monthly/annual cost of a smart DNS service is not
that much cheaper than for a VPN service.

or

3. Some other option that I'm not aware of.

Other Considerations to Bear in Mind

1. I'm not proposing to use the service with secure browsing or file transfer
specifically in mind. Though I realise a VPN service would offer these benefits
as well.

2. I'm also nterested to know whether implementation of either a smart DNS or a
VPN service might have an impact upon certain web services, such as Internet
Banking (when in NZ or overseas).

3. My OS at home is Windows 7 Pro (not Unix) on the desktop and Win 10 on the
laptop.

Welcome your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Viking

New member, want advise on sl125

Hi there,

I'm 17 year old who is mad into anything that moves with an engine. Most recently motorbikes. I currently own 3, well, 2 motorbikes and a scooter. The scooter (1995 Honda girono(Hondas plastic take on the Vespa)) was a gimmick bought solely for the purpose of riding 5 hours each way to brass monkey last year but has managed to stay with me. It is stickered up to look like a racing bike. With numbers 22 on the front and back, huge maxxis stickers, Skope classic stickers, and vairous other stickers and badges found around the place. One of which is a vetch badge which if you know anything on what vetch is, you know it's impossible with a 2 stroke.

Anyway of my other two bikes, I have a dr250s(e?) 1996-98 I think. Which goes well and I have recently changed fork seals drive chain and did a whole tear down cause I was bored one day.

My other bike, I'm even less sure what exactly it is. It's a Honda sl125. It's been in the family for a while now and was originally bought of a farmer who said he was going to send all the documentation in the mail And it never arrived. About 5 years ago I wanted to start something so I decided to try my hand at motorbikes... this was my first "restoration" all I really did was pull everything of the frame, remove paint and some rust, paint it answers put everything back to gether. I cleaned the carb and got it running just. It has since sat in garage. From memory, the clutch doesn't engage fully. This is the biggest issue with it, it has simple things wrong like a snapped front brake cable, which is an easy fix but could be expensive to do. This is where I need some help. I really want to get this on the road again. But seen as its man old bike is it considered a collectable and it would be a sacrilege to turn it into a scrambler on a budget or wither sell it on to someone to return it to its former glory or do it myself, once again on a budget... (also I know what I'm doing now more that I did back 5years ago)

I don't know if they are any use but here are the numbers on the SL
Frame Number: Sl125S-1127170
Engine Number:Sl1125SE 1126769

Any help would be gratefully appreciated on the SL impiticular

Might post some photos when I get home.
:)

The Smith System of defensive driving (or riding)

You can apply the Smith System on 2, 4, or more wheels.

It operates on 5 key principles:

Aim High In Steering
Look at least 15 seconds into your future, not just at the vehicle in front of you.

Get the Big Picture
Look for hazards. (Other Motorists, Pedestrians, Vehicle doors opening, etc.)

Keep Your Eyes Moving
Don’t stare. Use your peripheral vision. Stop the fixed habit stare.

Leave Yourself an Out
Monitor the space cushion around you.

Make Sure They See You
Use your signals. (Directionals, 4-way Flashers, Head Lights, Brake Lights, Horn, Hand Signals.) Make eye contact.

So for those who are resistant to taking some training by an external provider, the Smith System is a simple approach to defensive driving/riding. Or put another way, it's a simplistic version of Roadcraft (think Rideforever).

The easy way to remember the 5 keys is as follows:

A - all

G - good

K - kids

L - like

M - milk

So to get the 5 Keys memorised, we use the "All Good Kids Like Milk" memory prompt. Must work, for it's been a while for me since I was first shown the Smith System.

PS. At no point is the reliance on luck advocated as an integral part of the Smith System.

YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'VE GOT 'TILL ITS GONE 😞

NZPCRA was set up in 1995, by an amazing and inspiring group of people. I would like to acknowledge them and all the people who followed to help on the committee. Over the years the club has had some absolutely superior racing and spectacular race meetings.
Unfortunately as the years have moved on people's lives and priorities change and with this the club's committee have found themselves becoming thin and many burning out. Because yes race meetings don't just happen by themselves and require many hours of work.
Thank you for all the support that each and every one of you have given.
With this it's unfortunate that we announce we as a club cannot continue and will be merging with another club. As of the SGM held last Sunday it has been agreed to merge with the NZCMRR and form a new association to move forward and take Historic Racing to a new level. These decisions have not been made lightly.

We had hoped to continue with one last meeting in October but that has changed some what. The October Labour weekend meeting will be a one day event hosted by AMCC with all Post Classic Classes catered for , support those who are supporting us.
Thank you again for all the support that has been given.

Future Disruption

Stanford University futurist Tony Seba has spent the last decades studying technological

TGB Tapo 50cc 2 Stroke

I have a 2015 TGB Tapo, 50cc 2 stroke scooter. Awesome little machine. However, the daily commute to work seems to frustrate other road users, as it can only do a maximum of 50km/h. I have done research, and apparently it can be zooped up at a very low cost to get a little more speed out of it. Is this the case, and if so, who can I contact? I am in the Botany/Howick area. Thanks in advance.

Go smaller ?

I have just spent 15 months Deadhorse, Alaska to Ushuaia, Argentina on my Triumph Tiger 800Xc, loved the bike but not brilliant on deep gravel, sand or mud. I am coming to NZ from the UK to spend several months touring and was thinking about a smaller bike, not too worried about tarmac abilities as distances not so great any advice would be great, thinking maybe something like a Yamaha WR250R, help

The more I learn ....

.... the more scared I get.

Hi folks, a bit about me. I am German, was driving bikes back home but when we moved to NZ in 2000 I didn't bring my bike and was "caged" for the last 17 years. After feeling the urge for that long I recently got an 2005 R1200GS.

Back in my younger days our safety gear was adidas sneakers, Levis jeans, a fake plastic leather jacket, a helmet and gloves. We crashed and all of us survived without any permanent damage. We messed around with our bikes mechanically, made them faster and stuff. All was very "instinctive" we didn't know about torque settings on a spanner or measuring the electrodes on a spark plug. But we had heaps of fun.

Fast forward to 2017...

Buying the beemer was more an emotional decision than a rational one. The discussion whether it is the right bike for someone like me is for another time. What I want to talk about here today is my "mental state" in those days. I am much older now and approach things differently. When I was younger I never read a manual. Now I read books. I watch youtube, I follow forums (we didn't even know the internet back then). I read a book on my kindle (!!!) about riding techniques, I have the workshop manual (in German) for my bike and I follow Adventure Rider and kiwibiker forums etc.

It started when I was reading the book on riding techniques. "Always follow the vanishing point". They were talking about center of gravity and body position and stuff. Honestly? It stuffed up my riding skills completely. When out riding the monkey in my brain goes like "Watch the vanishing point! Did you put more weight on the inner peg just now? Don't use the front brake too much! Put your weight further back! Is this a wet patch ahead?" and I go "SHUT UP!!!!!!! All I want is to enjoy this ride. So SHUT THE F**** UP!"

I am also a bit "technically challenged" but I decided I will do smaller jobs on the bike to get back into it. I already feel like an idiot when I read on another forum that "if you can't change a tyre in the wild you shouldn't ride a bike" Oh shit, do I have to sell the beemer again? I love this bike! Better read about fixing a flat tyre in the wild. So more reading. Oh my god, I need to upgrade my tool box. All the things they say I need to be safe out there are missing.

My intention is to do an oil change soon. Should be easy, eh? Make sure the engine is at operating temperatures, put a container under the bike, open a screw, let oil drain out, remove oil filter, put new one in and fill her up again. Ha! Think again. Because I read "Another sad tale because people don't understand oil filters" on the ADVRider forum. Shit, you have to "understand" these things? That's 8 pages (and counting) of discussions about what can go wrong (and will go wrong) when changing an oil filter. Like you have to "understand women"? Or something? So now I need to study oil filters and the pitfalls when changing them. Does that O-ring look ok? Or is it too compressed? Or not enough? I think I better bring her to a dealer for the oil change. But is this really why I wanted a bike?

Why can't it be like back then when we were just riding the bikes, messed around and - had fun? is the internet to blame? Do we get too much information?

Ok I finish now. I want to go to the garage and sit there looking at my bike. It gives me great pleasure. And it is really not dangerous just looking at her. I meanwhile have a comfy chair down there. Every now and then I start her up without moving her. Just to hear the sound a bit. Riding her is too dangerous. What if I get a flat tyre down the road? It also rained yesterday and there might still be some wet patches under trees on the road. I honestly forgot what they said in the book about this situation. Better read up on it again. Oh I can do this in the garage in my chair with the company of my beautiful beemer. I better take a beer, too. Since I don't drive at least I can drink. Much better than riding the bike, isn't it? And it stays so clean and shiny.

Cheers

Peter

Not a bad batttery life. And a hats off to the AA.

I have known for a while that the battery in the bike was ailing. And this morning it finally died. At the gas station (PaknSave Supermarket pumps in Mill St, Te Tron). Started up fine at home (welll...slow crank but started)). After filling the tank it could only just turn the bike over, but no start. Push start didn't work either.

This was the original battery - made in Japan by Furukawa Battery Co. It has lasted 9 years and 92,000km. Which I consider to be pretty good.

I know it is fashionable on here to slag off the AA, but since I have been paying them for years with very few callouts, I gave them a call.

The dude was there within five minutes. Owner of two bikes himself, of English heritage, he sorted everything quick smart. Really interesting to talk to (he's raced at Isle of Man), he certainly gave a great impression of AA service. So just maybe the AA is not as anti bike as some seem to think.

New battery followed ($80 from Boyds). Cranks engine over about 10 times better than the old one. But probably won't last 9 years...

Not a bad batttery life. And a hats off to the AA.

Ducati pros & cons

I'm considering buying a Ducati, but know very little about them, other than anecdotal stories.

I'm looking at one of the single sided swing arm models, mainly for the looks, but have no idea if there are any differences which will affect me.

I do very few miles, bikes spend most of the time parked in the garage, and when I ride it's usually only a few hours at a time.

Currently ride my VFR400 the most, so HP isn't a big issue.
Budget is under $15k, but I'd rather stay around $10K.

Ideally I'd like something that I can park up for a few weeks, then get on and ride with no issues.

My VFR has been excellent, only ever needs tyres, chain, sprockets, and oil changes, but it's getting old, and a bit more power wouldn't go amiss.

I've seen 748's, 991's, 996's, & 1098's, but don't know the pros & cons of each.

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks

Hey guys,

I've still got a little problem with my '01 R6.

After riding the bike for a while it likes to rev higher than usual at idle, now I have a fair idea what it is but wanted to ask before I have a play. I know it isn't a vacuum leak, it is an issue with either the throttle cable or the carbies. When I let off the throttle it will sit around 2-2.5k rpm, when I physically push forward on the throttle it drops down (if I was to hold it forward it would stall). The idle adjust is set as low as it can go and I have just inspected and lubed the throttle cables (they snap back nicely).

If I am correct I need to adjust the centre carby butterfly adjust screw a tiny bit back. I won't play with the left or right as they have only just been sync'd less than 2000km ago.

Thanks in advance!

This means I might be back talking shit again. Anyone guess what I'm getting?

Driving an automatic car - do you use one foot or both?

This question was also posted on geekzone.

I first learnt to ride before driving a car, and have always driven a automatic car. Been doing this for 25 years. I got me wondering if motorcyclists are more likely to be two foot automatic drivers who do this "bad habit" . As you all know its good practice to hover your fingers over the brake lever when going through a intersection, heavy traffic etc. So I thought the same would apply to automatic car.

I do not rest my left foot on the brake pedal. I have it side and move it when needed. I have resat my license doing this and the instruction mentioned it was fine as I never rested my foot on the brake.

Where to get a tyre removed and refitted around East Auckland?

I need to remove the front tyre from the wheel, so I can tighten the nut holding the valve in, then refit the tyre to the wheel. Any suggestions as to where I can get this done in East Auckland - around general area of Howick / East Tamaki / Penrose / Ellerslie area? Does anyone on here have the gear at home to do it?

Forgot to say, don't worry about mentioning Botany Honda.

Parts & Accessories Fully worked f3 er650 race engine, world level performance

Selling my fully worked er650 race engine

One of the if not the highest hp motor in f3 in the Southern Hemisphere

Work done:

Blue printed cases, new bearings with balanced crack tested crankshaft, Carroll race h beam conrods, j.e. 13.5:1 pistons, running around 14.5:1 total comp. fully ported head by Brian bernard, new inlet valves just installed, custom racing spec cams (made in nz for this engine not an off the shelf grind) custom shims with all the parts you could require - but they never need adjusting. Bored out throttle bodies from 38 to 42mm with choke system removed, matched inletbtrumpets and custom modded air box with pipercross race filter. Yoyodine racing slipper clutch (amazing to ride/race with with) gearbox overhauled but remains std. flywheel and charging system removed - comes with Leo Vincent racing headers, can give tested exhaust specs for optimum hp. The flywheel can be easily replaced and a replacement. Other engine mods have been carried out can discuss with serious buyers

This engine made 98rwhp uncorrected on Chris Osbournes dyno on a great cold day which came out at 96rwhp corrected. Torque through the roof. Engine will come with power commander and pc ign controller including quick shifter.

The engine has done around 5/6 days on track since over haul. I have just purchased a racing cam chain tensioner that will be fitted as they stock ones are weak and fail often.

I was going to keep the engine to place in a modern 600 frame or 250 gp which would be perfect. It was running in a zxr400 frame which can go with it if desired.

I have spent Years developing this engine, we tried lighter cranks and other parts but this appears to be the strongest fastest setup you can make. We took what the Uk and the us guys do and improved on it.

If it doesn't sell whole I may part it out.

As this is a custom hot rodded race motor I cannot give a guarantee on the engine, it has been rebuilt at the end of last year, the head and side covers are off now and can be inspected if required.

You can't buy a stock one for this money - let alone a fast one!!

Cheers

Neil

It was mentioned in an election thread.

I'm some years away from retiring but planning ahead.

I was under the impression the Pension was not means tested.( its not)

KTM SX 50 parts

Hello I am trying to find some bits to fix a 2006 KTM SX 50 in NZ, everything is weeks away over seas and I don't have a credit card,

The last owner lost the radiator cap and cut the top hose and lost the top off the airbox and also the needle and clip from the carburetor slide and also they have damaged the intake boot that bolts to the engine.

Is anyone wrecking a n SX50 here?

I'm after a place in Auckland that could rebuild or repair some older style brake/clutch cable.

Upgrade Bike Advice. Next bike after VL250?

Hi,

I have a 2007 VL250, it took me a few years to actually get the bike (my first) so I spent a lot of time watching auctions and learning about the bike and prices that it and similar models went for. I was sure of what I wanted and I ended up getting this one for a steal and it hasn't taken that much work to get it going. I often read that it won't take me long riding this one before I want to upgrade and start looking for another bike. I plan on riding this one until I can get out of LAMS and on to my full licence.

Could I have some recommendations for a few good models that would be a good next step up for me? Just so I can start researching and watching auctions and start dreaming/saving for it.

Thanks

First bike.

Hi there I am going to be looking at purchasing my first bike very soon and the Kawasaki zxr400s have caught my attention but I can't seem to find very much information on these bikes. Anybody own any of these bikes before? And if so would they be a good first bike? Or would I be better off going for a cb400, xjr400 or something like that?
Thanks in advance.

F5's 100 is for sale

:cry::cry:

MBRS 100

Can't believe I'm doing this looking at the pictures.

Unfinished business. That’s what I figured I had with this bike. But with several other projects including a Bucket build for a mate, I’m just not getting onto it. Maybe it’s time for someone else to take the reins.
So, RS125 chassis with some (reversible) mods to make a normal size chap fit. MB100 engine converted to Full crankcase reed, watercooled and triple exhaust ports. 6 Speed gearbox. Extra plate clutch.
Ignitech ignition, high output CR250 Stator/Rotor, Intercooler waterpump, RS radiator. 32mm RGV carb. Optional 35mm bored out RGV carb fitted with home-made solenoid powerjet that I never had time to fully commission. Destroked crank and easily sourced KT100 kart piston. Fitted for quickshifter which is a boon on tight tracks. Needs the switch re-setup, but I have a spare.

It goes well, I’ve only faced one bike that could match it for straight line speed. It’s won bunches of races, sadly never a BoB although it has lead more than once (& I did win the CAMs trophy before) and held track record at Taumarunui. All with some fat old bloke on it.

I did have crank issues on the longer tracks but since machined the webs so a standard pin could be run rather than the stepped one that broke a couple of times. It’s been fine since. The stator & ignitech sorted out ignition problems I was having. Try find one.

Best dyno run on realistic dyno was 27.5hp. I lowered the transfer port floors to match piston @BDC and fitted inserts to make sweeping transfer inners. And lost 1hp. I’m pretty sure now that I’ve taken too much volume from the ports and grinding the easily reached outers would pay back this power and a bunch more.
The Pipe I now realise disobeys several rules of thumb and a better pipe should easily crest 30hp mark.

But I’ll never get around to it. While this is a push and go bike it needs someone who knows how to fettle 2 Strokes, feed it AvGas & decent oil, replace the occasional service part & ideally bring its potential above the weapon it is now. Last race I lent it out it got 2nd in the Wellington Enduro event. The tyres are somewhat old. Brakes & RS suspension are good.
I don’t want to be greedy, but this is prettied up FXR money $2800.
Oh yeah it could really do with a pretty up. I got some bright yellow paint, but you guessed it, - never got around to respraying it. Comes with full fairing as well.

Gareth Morgan & Politics

I first noticed this globe trotting biker when he sensibly told government that we should pay ACC levies based on the rider not the bike!! A mate just posted this on his FB page and it rang true now as then.

"TIME TO PLACE A STAKE IN THE GROUND. In the last 30 years I've watched the Kiwi dream my father and so many other tupuna who fought for us, quietly get ripped apart by 'free market' politicians. Even when I served as a police officer I would never have believed what I'm seeing now in this great country of ours. Without even talking poverty 3 out of 4 people under 40 now rent. Politicians from all sides have quietly done deals while 'bullshitting' us - just like the frog in the pot (http://ift.tt/1lppuyn)
My reason for this post? YOU - I'll probably be gone in the next 10 years, and will get by till then. However, I've got a small OPPORTUNITY to give you something to THINK about, and hopefully act on. There is an OPPORTUNITY to get people into government who aren't politicians thank God, and possess 'INBUILT BULLSHIT DETECTORS'
Despite what you see and hear, THE OPPORTUNITIES PARTY, have a real chance of not only getting into parliament, but also hold these mongrels accountable.
All I ask is that you turn the tv off, do some research, and make a decision. If this post has caused you to pause for a moment, I've done my job. Thanks for reading📷😉"

Purchased a bike off not the registered owner - Help!!

New to the forum and looking for some advice

I've recently purchased a 2001 Honda Hornet off TradeMe. Registration had lapsed a few years back and it needed some work, no big deal.

Got it back up to Auckland and spent some money to get it all working and get it WOF ready and ready to re-register in my name. When I've gone to re-register this it turns out the bike is not in the name of the guy that sold it to me.

Now I know I'm an idiot for spending the money/time to get it all working before checking the reg info but I honestly did not even consider the fact it may not be registered to the guy..

Been a bit of a mess around to try get this sorted as the guy I bought it off can't find proof of anything when he purchased it a few years back (It has been sitting unused in this shed for years). I've been to a JP and signed a confirmation that I bought it legally and contacted the guy I bought it off to obtain proof he brought it legally but the compliance officer said this isn't enough and they need proof that the guy I purchased it off was legally allowed to sell it. He is often ignoring my messages and said that he is searching for things but hasn't been in touch with the person he brought it off in years.

I'm not sure what to do here or what my options are. It's my first bike I just want to get it signed off and home so I can ride it :(

Anyone able to shed some light on what steps I can take in this situation or what my options are?

Swinger Needed!!

Hey everyone, its been awhile but I'm looking at getting back on the track (Thanks Des et al)!

I am in need of someone who can hold on and isn't afraid of a small amount of dirt tracking... might be better if its someone who isn't riding a bucket bike unless they dont mind hopping off one and on to the other!

I hear Henk and RIck are still the ones to beat, so lets see how that works out.

Might be a month or so before I do make it up but it will be soon. Look forward to catching up with everyone.

Cheers,

Canterbury: Christchurch ride

Since it's a nice day today, wondering if anyone is out or keen to ride around either Christchurch or venture out beyond?

Canterbury: Christchurch ride

Canadian touring South Island in Nov. - buying and reselling a bike in Christchurch?

Hi guys,

I'm planning on spending approximately 3 weeks touring the south island of NZ this coming November, and I'd like to do it on a bike! I have 3 years riding experience, with approximately 30,000kms under my belt so far, including a 3 week 15,000km trip down the Pacific coast and back over here in NA. The only thing that concerns me is finding a bike to use for my trip. I've done some research and it sounds like the best (cheapest) option is to purchase a bike while I'm there and sell back upon leaving.

I'll be arriving in Christchurch late Tuesday evening on November 21st (NZ time), and would like to purchase the bike the following day, and then sell it back Sunday December 10th (the day before I return home). I was hoping some of you folk may be able to provide some recommendations on some places that might be willing to facilitate such a request. Something like Crasherfromwayback was offering here. I'd likely be wanting to pick up either an adventure bike or sport touring bike. Will it even be necessary getting something capable of dirt riding? I don't have a route/itinerary laid out yet, but I'll have 18-19 days to see as much as I can.

I had just gotten my vacation request approved yesterday at work and booked my flights, so I'm still in the beginning steps here. I'm mostly concerned about ensuring I have a bike available at a reasonable price, but I'm all ears for info on places to go/avoid, things to do, etc. I'm generally an outdoorsy/adventure person. I like hiking, trying good local food, etc. I have camping supplies and such, but I'm planning on camping or staying at cheap motels/hostels yet, since I would need to haul all of that stuff over from here and ensure my bike is able to carry all of it. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

ECU Remaps

Hey all

Now I have an Akra can and K&N filter for the MT-09 I'm looking to get the ECU remapped. Hoping to sort out the fueling and on/off throttle issues -- I also want some of the emissions stuff disabled, hoping to pick up some power and smoothness/ridability that EURO4 has undoubtedly robbed from the bike.

Does anyone have any opinions on who are best to do this? I have been recommended R&R Powersports by Red Baron but am open to alternatives. Will need to be Auckland (or surrouding areas). Not too keen on sending the ECU overseas as it means time off the bike and no dyno runs to baseline before/after.

Cheers.

Numberplate lights

I got stopped by a motorcycle cop a few days ago because apparently the lights on my numberplate are illegal. He said I'd lose 15 points off my license if I get done. But I've had my bike (Honda Hornet 900) for something like two years and it's passed all the WOFs. I got stopped by a cop last year because my rear tyre was a bit flat (nail) but he didn't mention anything about it. I've tried searching online but this is all I can find:
https://vehicleinspection.nzta.govt....mination-lamps
and that seems fine. The biker cop said it wasn't a WOF thing but I don't know where else to look.

Does anyone know what the definitive requirements are?

Gsx1400 2004

A mate is having fueling issues. The bike is leaning out over 6,000rpm. It is being sorted by a well known and respected dyno tuner in Auckland. He is looking for fuel pump and possibly injectors but hard to come by locally and rather pricey to import.

He would also like to know if anyone would be willing to offer him a loan of their fuel tank for Brett to try out to test whether it's the pump. He realises it's a big ask, but as I said, it's with a top tuner.

One suggestion was buying a wrecked bike for parts if anybody knows of one.

Splitting at Motorway on-ramp lights - yes or no??

I'm fresh back into the country after 8 years away. They didn't have the stupid motorway on-ramp lights when I left. What's the go with these, do you split up to the front like a normal set of lights, or do you wait in the queue with all the peanuts in their cars? Obviously if you did split you'd need to watch out for the ragers opening their doors or moving over on you, but what seems to be the "standard" at these lights?

Is this a comedy show?

I caught the last few minutes waiting for " The Silk Road " which would be a good bike trip.

Why are the Police so nice to idiots who have no rego, wof or licence?

The message they are sending out is that why bother with all that compliance kafuffle when you only get a $400.00 fine.

There was one plonker that had a POS van on SH1 that had not been legal for 10 years and the driver had no licence.

All very amusing..... slapped a pink sticker on the window and told him to get it sorted.

Cop made some comment about old vehicles....I think he meant to say old neglected vehicles driven by complete morons.

Extra lights on handlebars

I'm planning to add some LED lights to my bike to supplement the pitiful headlight.

I've found I can easily mount them to the handlebars, which seems like a good idea because hopefully the light will follow where I'm facing.

My question is, is it legal to mount lights on the handlebars instead of the bike frame ?
Specifically, any issue with the direction the lights are pointing ?

Textile waterproofs

I have been through a couple of sets. My first DriRider jacket leaked from day 1. Swapped it for a better version. That DriRider jacket lasted maybe 5 years = good. The trousers leaked from Day 1 too - got them replaced and they lasted a couple of years. Tried some others ... leak leak leak. But I do like them as they are warm and have padded protection.

It's difficult to get overtrousers on the top of them without it being too tight so today ... I wore them UNDERNEATH the old Misano trousers I have. Kinda like new liners I guess. Anyway - comfy - worked fine - dry. Shall continue to wear them like that until it gets drier and warmer.

Incidentally, the best overtrousers are the cheapest roadworking / horrible looking whatevers. Those from bike shops don't seem to last too long. Go to a builder's or gardening shop or somewhere. Cheaper is better for some reason.

DR 250 1982 Need Help with electrics

Hello everyone,

Just got a DR250 and need some help with the electrics,
The CDI Igniter seems strange because their is Different colored wires coming out
and I'm thinking this is the wrong cdi igniter the wires are

White
White and Blue Stripe
Black with White Stripe
Green
Red

very, very strange... :oi-grr:

and looks like the cdi is a bit damaged but not too sure. The ignition coil looks different too.
if someone could give me information on what needs to be done what needs to be wired up and if i have even an
original CDI igniter and ignition coil.

Here is a link to some photos i took on the bike and all.

DR 250 1982 Need Help with electrics

Hi there

I just want to introduce myself.
I'm John, expat from Sweden a oldie +55 . Moved here 1994. I sold off my bikes in Sweden (one of them was a 1985 Hailwood Mille :( ) with the intention to buy as soon as I got in order in NZ, it never happened. Met a lady, built house got kids. A couple of years ago I bought a do up bike, The ''one year wonder" GSX250S Katana and later a sparepart bike from Red Baron after they lost the import paperwork so they couldn't register it.
But now it was time to renovate the house. So yet another delay :(
In June my Swedish licence was renewed so I had the MC licence transfered to my Kiwi Licence and told the family it's time for MEE I must have a bike.
Just bought a non runner Bandit and now it's running
Time for WOF.
I'm realistic, the long break from driving have made me "Rusty"
My 1st question. Are there any courses around South Auckland for driver trainings.
2nd were do you guys in South Akl. go for WOF, tried Google but it says only VTNZ, but I don't like them (that's another story)
Sorry for my ramblings, any help with my questions will be very appreciated.
John
